Updates to Microsoft Volume Licensing web sites

On December 6, 2009 Microsoft are updating its Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) (https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter/home.aspx) to make it easier for you to manage your Volume Licensing products, agreement benefits and subscriptions on a central and convenient online site.

The improvements to the VLSC will provide a single, integrated portal for managing all Volume Licensing ID's, including Enterprise Agreement, Select License, Open and Open Value and School Agreements.

The changes you will see after December 6 include:

  • eOpen and MVLS licensing management sites will be retired, with automatic re-directs in place to VLSC.
  • All user accounts and registered Licensing IDs will be migrated seamlessly.
  • The updated VLSC will feature a simplified registration process.
  • For Open customers, a new user interface will consolidate the Terms & Conditions into a two-click process.
  • Improved management capabilities designed to provide an Administrator with greater control.

This is where you download your media - with a very few exceptions when you can order conventional media on-line.

Microsoft Open Licensing

If you have software purchased under an open or volume license, inc School Agreements you can find details product keys and download software from:
https://licensing.microsoft.com/eLicense/L1033/Default.asp

You need to have a Microsoft passport account to sign-in (you can set that up quite easily - there's a link on the page). You also need to be the main contact on the agreement or to have been given access by that contact in your organisation. if you are expecting you admin person to leave - make sure they give you access and get your details on the agreements before they leave!

If you have any queries there is help available from the page or from Microsoft by email or phone (details on the page)

Microsoft launches Windows 7

Windows 7 is now officially available to buy or download (if you have a volume licensing agreement). We've been using it in-house for a month or two and in general it seems well-mannered and slightly lighter on its feet than Vista. Probably not worth updating unless you are experiencing real difficulties or want specific features. But if you don't like your Vista experience or are upgrading your computer anyway it's probably worth a try. We can advise on volume licensing options or you can purchase single packs from Amazon Windows 7 at Amazon

ENTAnet has revised its broadband product range

To take into account the various new services available now the 21CN network is being rolled out ENTAnet are rationalising their product range. All existing customers will be placed on another product similar to the one they are on currently.

ENTAnet have contacted all their customers to explain this and tell them which new product would be most appropriate for them. The change will be made automatically on the next billing date unless you contact ENTAnet or Realcom to ask for a different product. This is easy to do over the phone or by email.

In general the prices are the same or slightly lower for similar bandwidth service. the main difference is the way that overuse of bandwidth is managed. previously you were charged a penalty fee that was taken from your next direct debit. Now you are charged on the amount of overuse. You can choose to prepay for overuse units or - more conveniently - set a limit on how much overuse charge you will pay and payment will be taken from your next direct debit.

Email me if you have any queries about the options available.
